Partial Thromboplastin Time

Specimen:

Collect

  • One Blue Top (Na Citrate)

Submit

  • 1 mL (Min:0.5 mL) Plasma . Submit Frozen. Submit in a Standard Transport Tube.

Special Handling

  • If patient is on Heparin Therapy separate plasma from cells within 1 hr, plasma is stable for 2 hrs ambient.
    Patients that are on therapeutic coagulation drugs, including but not limited to Rivaroxaban, Apixaban, Edoxaban, Dabigatron, Vit K antagonists, and Unfractionated Heparin, are known to cause interference with testing. Discontinue drugs for a minimum of 24 hours prior to any aPTT testing.

  • Clotted Specimen
  • Grossly Hemolyzed Samples
  • Collection tubes not properly filled
